Between the rising hellscape that is Spaces, to the unleashing of Spotify Wrapped, Twitter was a slog this week, so here’s a recap of mostly TikTok finds instead.
Recent TikTok accounts/trends that entertain me
SideTalk NYC: A spiritual partner to the beloved tweakseason, Sidetalk has both an ig and TikTok attempting to capture the heart of New York (Although disclaimer: It’s run by two white NYU kids, does that make it less or somehow more authentic, I can’t tell. Nothing says New York like privileged NYU students exploiting locals for views and money). The below video is probably the most popular audio on TikTok right now.
Carmen and Lupita: Carmen and Lupita Andrade are conjoined twins that make TikToks about everything from how they drive, to giving temperature checks, to how Lupita loves to photobomb Carmen and her boyfriend’s photos. The two of them are so funny and wonderful, would recommend a follow.
“What do you wanna say to Joe Biven[‘s secret service] right now?”: Allegedly Joe Biden has hot secret service agents. There are fancams. No further comment at this time.
Did Olivia Wilde do a backbend at a Harry Styles concert? An investigation
Olivia Wilde, sort-of girlfriend of Harry Styles, has essentially been on tour with him all year, popping up at his concerts all over the country. As I’ve previously mentioned, Wilde sits in an unfortunately volatile position as the S.O. of a mainstream heartthrob, with every one of her actions being scrutinized by hundreds of thousands of fans.
Which is why the latest rumor about her is simultaneously bonkers and hilarious: Did she do a backbend at Harry’s concert in New York?
The unconfirmed quip took off after someone posted the below tweet:
And it really took off, with people clamoring to find video of it, and cross-referencing their observations at the concert. News of the alleged backbend made its way to TikTok.
So why has such a mundane rumor put both Twitter and TikTok in such a tizzy?
Maybe someone could do a full sociological analysis, but I think the real answer is just that it’s funny lol.
People were trying to be semi-respectful (Wilde has been subjected to a lot of mean spirited jabs since she started dating Styles), but just could not help but revel in the bizarreness of the possibility.
I don’t know about everyone else, but I solely associate backbends with like, a weird flex you’d try to pull in the fourth grade. Like a, “Mom!! MOM!! Look at this cool thing I can do!!”
The thought of 37-year-old Olivia Wilde doing a backbend at a Harry Styles concert, it’s thrilling!
OK, so did she actually do a backbend or not?
Unfortunately the answer is: we don’t know. With the only possible proof being in the video below.
Wilde had some funky moves and did indeed “bend backwards” but there is yet to be any proof that she did a full on backbend. A disappointing conclusion to an otherwise thrilling, rumor-fueled saga, but you can’t win everything I guess.
Did TikTok break up Anthony Ramos and Jasmine Cephas-Jones? Another investigation
Beloved, longtime “Hamilton”-couple Anthony Ramos and Jasmine Cephas-Jones called it quits this week, and the theater world collectively mourned. The couple had been together for six years, (engaged for three) so… we should really respect their privacy and let them hash out the painful ending of this longterm relationship.
Hm, hm, but, is it possible that the demise of their relationship came from a TikTok? It’s true that the couple had been posting less of each other on social media in the last month which hinted that there was trouble afoot. BUT it wasn’t until a certain TikTok was posted that Cephas-Jones quickly erased all remnants of Ramos from her ig.
I’ll admit the TikTok is blurry and doesn’t give extremely damning evidence, but if absolutely gem-of-a-human-being/character actor/father of Jasmine, Ron Cephas-Jones ALSO deleted some of his ig posts about his then-future son-in-law this week, I’d say it’s likely this was the last straw.
Ramos’ profile has blown up within the last year after starring in the movie adaptation of “In the Heights,” so one can only hope that the fame isn’t getting to his head…
Is this the Chris Prattification of Anthony Ramos? Only time will tell.
